Afterword :

« Haha ! This is preposterous ! No human organisation could have ANY SORT of advanced technology and keep it from the public FOR CENTURIES ! That’s like… Like…. *snaps* Like saying the US Air Force has been using gravitation control tech since the 1950ies, has an entire secret space program on a galactic scale, RIGHT NOW, and has kept the secret about it for 70+ years !? HAHAHA ! … See ?! Like I said : PREPOSTEROUS ! This No-field-tech-in-10196 thing is the most ridiculous shit ever ! »…said noone, ever.

This fanart was supposed to be just a single « Wormriders » shader, but as I dived into the art from years ago (bookcovers, movie posters, series, video games), I realised there were MANY other scenes that I could create. So I made a few ones. And the original shader became some sort of short film…

But the real idea for the story originated from a detail I discovered while browsing a Duniverse Wiki a few months ago : the « No-Field ». I didn’t know about this specific bit of info (I’ve only read Dune 1&2 and Dune Messiah, though several times each) but it made a lot of sense to me for some reason. And I immediately started imagining Ixians doing other nasty/dangerous stuff, protected by this « no-field bubble of stealth » which the Kwisatz Haderach Himself cannot spy on !

During that time, I was reminded of the (famous) quote from the 1984 Lynch movie : « Many machines on Ix. New machines. Better than those on Richese. »

Somehow it just clicked, I KNEW then what to write about.

So I went on.

It was also fun, for once, to view the Duniverse from another point of view : regular humans (or AIs !) that just have science, zero precog or Bene Gesserit Ubermensch breeding program. Normal, rational people that just want to survive in the face of a galactic Jihad.

I hope the result doesn’t suck too much, hehehe.

Anyways, YOU tell ME ! Please leave a comment, and/or show your support by buying me a coffee ! (it really helps)

Also if you need me to make a 2D shader for your website, or to illustrate your own texts, I may be able to help. Explain your idea at the adress here !

On the technical side : this episode was super interesting to make. I’m still a bit annoyed at the poor kerning in the text though, that monospaced font I use is NOT the best for this. BUT. I was exploring the medium (to tell stories in an original manner) and totally didn’t expect to go in this text-heavy direction. I will upgrade the font code in next prods, for sure.

But most of all, THANK YOU for reading and enjoying this. I will now credit all the people that, simply by their presence or sometimes their active help, have made this episode of The Last Temple a bit more possible :

The place of honor goes to Skaven, great Finnish musician that, kindly, shared his music for my project. I feel blessed to have such a cool soundtrack to rely on. Skaven is a great composer, go check his Soundcloud at SKAVEN252 !

Also : Iq, Morimea, Shane, mrange, Diatribes, Dathor, Frostbyte, Jorge, Fabrice, Jaenam, and MANY, MANY other cool/inspiring people from Shadertoy ! You guys are honestly the best ! Even those I forgot !

Also, special place for : Willbe, Eagle4, and the Abomination
